MALNUTRITION IS A HIDDEN EPIDEMIC IN OLDER AMERICANS

Malnutrition is a widespread problem for many, but is noticed to be affecting an increasing number of older Americans. The problem is so dangerous because there are few detectable symptoms in the early stages. The nutrient deficiencies can creep up and severely affect many older people. The homeless elderly are especially at risk and, as this population is increasing alarmingly in cities throughout America, the threat to their lives is real. Malnutrition can affect up to half of older adults and can become a very frightening potential for tragedy on a large scale. Some symptoms are severe weight loss, fainting, hair loss, fatigue, and dizziness. Having blood work done is really the only way of diagnosing malnutrition and eliminating other medical causes. If left untreated, malnutrition can lead to disabilities, both mental and physical, other illness, or death.

Increased age increases the risks of diseases and conditions that weaken the body. It has been reported that up to 65% of hospitalized older adults risk malnutrition, and even in such an environment, it remains hard to detect. Nutrient deficiency threatens even those with healthy diets, and to combat this, things like vitamins are vital in fighting off this condition. The most effective vitamins needed would be Vitamins A, C, D, E, and K, and the eight B-vitamins. Of course,

multivitamins are not the cure for malnutrition; it only helps by adding micronutrients to the diet, but they are one of the few precautions one can take to fight malnutrition.

HOW CARING FOR YOUR TEETH HELPS YOUR HEALTH ?

A bright, white smile is always attractive. We know that no one enjoys going to the dentist, especially when you know that you will have to stand that annoying noise and quite some pain for the next hour or so, but this is something you have to do. Why is it important for your health to care for your teeth?

Teeth are part of your body, so if anything affects them, it will eventually affect the rest of you. Suppose you have a tooth that gives you pain almost every day. You may decide to just take pain killers. Your tooth is probably infected, and if you don’t cure the infection, the infection will move to another part of your body.

You can tell a lot about a person by how their teeth look. It is really detrimental to have your looks spoiled by yellowing teeth and bad breath. It can play a huge part in how others view you, especially employers or

prospective employers. First impressions are extremely important in every occasion where you have to interact with people.

Visit your dentist on a regular basis. Regular check-ups and regular maintenance will ensure your teeth will not compromise your health. A lovely, while smile will do wonders for your confidence.

LENTILS - THE NATURAL WEIGHT-LOSS FOOD

If you are engaged in a nutritional program, there is everything to love about lentils. These wonders of nature not only help you lose weight but they also control your blood sugar levels, which definitely sounds like great news.

However, these are definitely not the only benefits of lentils. They have positive effects on your digestive system, allowing the improvement of your digestive health.

Lentils are enjoyed all over the world and they are one of the most nutritious meat substitutes. This means that they have a significant amount of protein, as well as a dense texture. Lentils also provide an important amount of essential nutrients.  It is basically a very complete food loved by vegetarians and vegans.

Even though you might not be too familiar with lentils, they have been on the human consumption list for a long time. Evidence of their existence and use in cuisine goes back to the Neolithic time.  In fact, it is considered one of the oldest crops; discoveries show them to be used as long ago as 6,000 to 13,000 years. They have been an important part of Indian and Middle Eastern cuisine for thousands of years.

Another added benefit of lentils, besides weight-loss, high nutrition, and blood sugar control, is that they are extremely inexpensive. One pound of lentils will cost you only a few dollars. They are an inexpensive way of adding essential nutrients and dietary fiber to your diet without buying expensive cuts of meat.

Added benefits of lentils include:

  • Protect the heart by lowering cholesterol.

  • Help balance pH levels of the body.  Lentils are usually alkaline.  This property allows them to help maintain the pH level in the digestive system.

  • Improve immunity through its dietary fiber.

Overcome Infertility – What is A Normal Menstrual Cycle In TCM Perspective

A normal menstrual cycle is normally from 28- 35 days, without any symptom that causes discomfort (excluding dull pain) and menstrual discharge is red and lasts from 3- 5 days without spotting. Not all women with abnormal menstrual cycles are infertile, but if you are diagnosed with the unexplained cause of infertility, then your abnormal menstrual cycle may be the cause. Traditional Chinese medicine, before treating any cause of infertility, would like to restore your normal menstrual cycle so you can conceive quickly. Girls in southeast Asia have learnt early from their grandmother's wisdom, that maintaining the normal menstrual cycle is the main objective for easy conception and any menstrual disorder should be looked after immediately.

Depending on how the Chinese practitioner divides the menstrual cycle, it may be 4 or 5 phases.

I would like to make it easy for the reader, by dividing it into 4 phrases ( it is still the same).

Pregnancy Miracle

Reverse Infertility And Get Pregnant Naturally

Using Holistic Ancient Chinese Medicine

I. Phase I -the yin phase (about 12 – 14 days)

At the beginning of the yin phase, yin surges (the rise of estrogen) that leads to the growth of fluids in the uterus, that only helps to moisten the uterus, but also thickens the endometriosis in order to prepare the uterus for normal conception. The increasing yin also supports the production of blood and produces sperm friendly mucus which is important for sperm invasion.

In conventional medicine as the estrogen rise, the brain signals the hypothalamus to secrete gonadotropin-releasing hormone (FSH), which in turn stimulates the pituitary gland to produce the follicle stimulating hormone that initiates the growth and recruitment of immature follicles in the ovary.

II. Phrase II – ovulation phase (about 4 days)

As the yin (estrogen) at its peak, the liver triggers the start of the ovulation phase by extruding the mature follicle into the fallopian tube. In this phrase, the uterus continues producing sperm friendly mucus as qi and blood move downward to warm the uterus and promote the implantation of the egg.

III. Phrase III – the yang or luteal phase (about 12 -14 days)

When the egg is extruded into the fallopian tube, the liver transforms yin energy to yang that triggers the yang ( progesterone) phrase. At this phase, blood and qi move downward, the endometrial lining becomes softer to prepare the implantation of the fertilized egg, if occurs.

In conventional medicine, at this phrase

corpus luteum starts to produce progesterone that triggers the softening of endometrial lining for fertilized egg implantation.

IV. Phrase IV- menstruation phase (about 3-5 days)

If no conception occurred, the yang drops cause the shedding of the uterus lining. The menstrual discharge is bright red and profuse and only lasts between 3 – 5 days ( spotting does not count).

I will continue to provide more information that contributes to the causes of abnormal menstrual cycles, including prolonged and shortened phases in each phase and how you can cure them. The aim of this series is to provide the information of how you can modify your menstrual cycle for easy conception. I believe it is helpful for women diagnosed with the unexplained causes of infertility or any women who would like to stop symptoms of menstruation disorders.
